Since
1992, when Doctors Robert Kaplan and David Norton
revolutionised management systems with their
Balanced Scorecard approach to running a business,
the concept of Strategy Focused Management
has gained increasing popularity.
Having
decided upon the goals to meet, strategy needs
to be put into place to ensure that the organisation
is aligned to meeting those objectives. The
hard part is making sure that those strategies
work and, if they are heading off track,
understanding what is needed to bring them back
into line.

Improving
Manufacturing Effeciency
Dashboards and the visualisation
of performance KPI's are now an
essential part of manufacturing
excellence initiatives. Avantis
was called upon, by a large multi-national
manufacturer, to develop a series
of dashboards that showed operational
staff how their efforts measured
up against goals and objectives.
The dashboards are updated 'real-time'
and are displayed on large monitors
positioned around the factory floor,
in full view of the employees that
are working to meet their key performance
indicators.

Visualisation
for SAP Data
In addition to reporting and analysis,
Avantis also provides the services
required to consolidate data from
multiple data sources into a data
mart or data warehouse. We recently
developed a series of dashboards
and reports for an IT sales organisation
who need to consolidate information
from SAP, their sales system and
multiple databases. We create an
automated process to consolidate
this data on a daily basis and a
series of information-rich dashboards
used by all levels within the organisation.

Mining and Primary Industry
Avantis has also helped other organisations
reduce expenses at the coal face
literally! Recently we developed
the KPI data and dashboards to deliver
meaningful information on heavy
(and expensive) plant and equipment
used in the mining industry. By
measuring the Reliability (MTBF,
MTTR), Utilisation (UAT, OA, MA)
and analysing the cause of Down-Time
(ADR, SMDR), etc.

Jump-Starting
Dashboard Development
Dashboards provide information at-a-glance
and can change the way and organisation
looks at data. We recently helped
a large primary industry company
understand how they can use dashboarding
within their organisation, teaching
a technical training course for
key developers and business users.
We also then helped them "jump
start" their dashboard development
with one of our consultants working
alongside their own developers to
help design and develop their initial
dashboards.
